Training: General or Tailored
To address the aims of the Eating Disorders Association of Northern Ireland, to improve the quality of services available to sufferers of eating disorders, we have developed training for professionals working with eating disorders. Aimed a a range of professionals, including those working with young people and within education, those working with health and social care, and those in the community and voluntary sector, EDANI provides training and workshops to improve the understanding of eating disorders. Covering a range of topics, including understanding eating disorders, how to work with eating disorders and understanding the current services in Northern Ireland, training can be tailored to the needs of the organisation and individuals attending the training. Specialist training issues can also be addressed with previous work having focused on areas such as working with young people, the over 50's and males with eating disorders.
In addition EDANI provides training for those caring for a family member with an eating disorder to help provide them with the practical information to support their loved one effectively. Feedback from previous carers workshops have been extremely positive with many attendees saying this was the first time they felt they had the tools to help and support their loved one through this difficilt and complex illness. We plan to further develop this training as well as producing further resources to compliment similar workshops in the future.
