Supporting Eating Disorders Online
As part of Eating Disorders Awareness Week 2015 the Eating Disorders Association NI launched their new website as a way to improve the online support and information available for those living with and eating disorder as well as their family and friends. While eating disorders are seeing a growing prevalance, particularly in younger age groups, worryingly few people feel able to come forward and speak about their illness because of the stigma that surrounds these disorders. With the increasing access to online resources and information the team at EDANI felt it was necessary to create a new website that can provide anyone in need of information or support for an eating disorder a place where they are able to easily access this in a safe and supportive environment.
Using social media like twitter and facebook, as well as increase email suports, EDANI hope that this new website will provide people with somewhere they can get all the relevant information and feel safe in asking questions and talking about their eating disorder.
The launch event, held on the 25th of February, allowed members of the public, eating disorder teams across the region and local support groups to test-drive our new website and see how we ahope to develop our services to meet the new online demands that face the world of eating disorders. It is hoped that this new website and online space will help us create a wider awareness of eating disorders in Northern Irleand as well as providing the relevant information for anyone worried about these disorders to feel safe and confident in their journey to recovery.
